Oh, life!
I am all a-focused on school and college apps.

Not much is new in sewing world, EXCEPT:

I am sending a page o' slides in with my application that shows piccies of my artwork and costuming.

what's good about it: it says: "hey, look, I am talented and skilled and arty and multifaceted"

what's bad about it: the admissions people have 30-billion apps to process, you think they may get annoyed by having to look through extra slides and pictures???

what do YOU think??

what did/would YOU do??

I think it depends. If you are applying to an art specific program that is highly competative then I'd include them. If I'm applying for undergrad (where they don't even let you pick your major for a year normaly) I'd let it go. When they have to wade through everything else they just want to see what they asked for.

well, the thing is, they give you the option of doing this....so, i think i will go ahead and do it...and we will see what happens
thanks for your thoughts :)

I did send in some slides of my artwork with my college apps. I was told it might help me stand out. I don't know what effect this actually had on my application, but I did end up going to a school I really loved. I would concentrate more on the other parts of your application first, then think about slides as an icing on the cake.

yes, icing, definitely.
but i feel like i should do it, cause...like you said: stand out, and..listing "painting" or "drawing" or "sewing" as an extracur. means so little, but show them that you can actually produce something..and they may take notice...I Hope!
by the way, i am applying to brandeis :)!

do you remember how many slides you sent??, a standard sheet has room for 20, but i may just send "select & best" without adding too much to the volume of my file.
i know it was a lil while ago and you prob would be happy to forget the whole app process, but...how many did you send?

I'm glad you are applying to Brandeis! I had an awesome time there.

I think I sent maybe 6-10 slides? Not more than that. I agree, focus on your best work, something that you are really proud of. This will show your passion and talent, without giving them too much to look at.

And, are you asking how many applications I sent? I think it was about 8. Most of my friends were in the 5-8 applications range. Brandeis was actually my "safety" school, but after I went to visit, I just fell in love with the school, so I decided to go even though I had gotten into some of my "reach" schools.

I has meant just the slides. But, hey, it's nice to hear what other people did. I, myself, out of fear, am applying to 10 schools, I added a bunch of Really Safe safeties just in case...well, just in case.

Your story is so interesting! Brandeis isn't a reach for me either. But, it's my #1 school of those that I am pretty confident I will get into. Oh my, I wish I could just fast-forward to when we get decisions back...this wait is terrible!

Thanks so much for sharing ur perspective and experience : )

I know, the waiting is the worst part! But it sounds like you are doing a good job with the apps.
